TORONTO, ON, January 27, 2025 — Purolator and the Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) today announced the official opening of a new Purolator Urban Quick Stop mini hub to help reduce congestion in the North York region.
Made from a 40-foot shipping container, the new Urban Quick Stop is located in Green P carpark 403 in the Willowdale neighbourhood at 10 Empress Avenue, North York.
The location features three e-bikes, replacing traditional curbside vehicles for local deliveries, contributing to Purolator’s goal to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 42 per cent by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050.
In addition to housing Purolator’s e-bike courier operations for the area, the site also features Purolator Quick Stop Pick-Up parcel lockers, providing secure, convenient, 24/7 locations to drop off, pick up and return packages.
This expansion follows a successful pilot with the City of Toronto, Toronto Parking Authority which saw Purolator deploy the first-ever on-street logistics hub in the city in 2022. The pilot demonstrated the effectiveness of micro-distribution hubs in easing congestion and improving delivery efficiency in dense urban areas, paving the way for continued growth of the Urban Quick Stop model.
“Purolator’s Urban Quick Stops and e-bike couriers are an innovative solution to some of the ongoing challenges we have in Canada’s rapidly expanding cities,” said Jacqueline Jennings, Director of Retail, Purolator.
“By deploying e-bikes, we can help reduce congestion, improve air quality and lower GHG emissions, providing a more environmentally friendly way for us to deliver on these busy city streets. Our parcel lockers are another way we’re providing convenience to our customers, offering pick-up and drop-off services 24/7.”
Purolator’s Urban Quick Stops support the City of Toronto’s strategic goals of reducing congestion and improving safety.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Purolator and expand the services we offer Toronto residents,” said Toronto Parking Authority Vice- President, Business Development & Stakeholder Engagement Adamo Donatucci.
“This is another example of the importance of working with our private sector partners to explore new opportunities to re-imagine the future of mobility.”
“The launch of Purolator’s Urban Quick Stop mini hub in Willowdale is a great example of how innovation can help us build a more sustainable and livable city. By introducing e-bike deliveries and parcel lockers, we’re reducing traffic congestion, cutting emissions, and providing residents with convenient, secure options for package pick-up and drop-off. This initiative aligns perfectly with Toronto’s climate goals and our commitment to improving mobility and air quality in our neighborhoods. Thank you to the TPA for championing this!”, said Councillor Lily Cheng – Ward 18 Willowdale.
