Community members across Canada and the United States stepped up in a big way to support the third annual Purolator Tackle Hunger National Red Bag campaign, donating a remarkable 214,461 pounds of food to food banks — a powerful show of generosity during a time of growing need.
The campaign ran from Sept. 3 to Oct. 6, which aligned with Hunger Action Month — a nationwide initiative observed in both Canada and the U.S. that raises awareness about hunger and inspires action in our communities.
This year, Purolator volunteers distributed more than 70,000 reusable red bags to doorsteps across 28 communities and returned to collect and deliver the donations to local food banks to support individuals and families facing hunger.
This year marked the campaign’s expansion into the United States, with Red Bag food drives hosted in select American cities for the first time. The collected donations were delivered to local food banks in the U.S.
“We continue to grow the Purolator Tackle Hunger National Red Bag campaign in scale and impact because we’re deeply committed to supporting food banks and those who need it most,” said John Ferguson, President and CEO, Purolator. “The incredible generosity we’ve seen from communities across North America has made a real difference. Every donation goes a long way, and we’re thankful to everyone who stepped up during a time of growing need.”
“We’re so grateful for our partnership with Purolator and the leadership they’ve shown in mobilizing communities across North America to rally in support of the Purolator Tackle Hunger National Red Bag campaign,” said Kirstin Beardsley, Chief Executive Officer, Food Banks Canada. “With close to 2.2 million people visiting food banks this month alone, this kind of collective action is more vital than ever to help support those most at risk in our communities.”
